Lawbod, wbu upent several weeks In Hood Itlver valley lant Muruuier, baa the following state ment to make In reply to a telt-Krari) sent blm by the New York World: After careful atudyofthe problem Met fortb la your telegram, were 1 graduating today from a college Kast, West or South, I would head straight for the great, undeveloped Northwest. I would buy my ticket for I'ort land, Ore. I would spend my first week In that splendid proto-type of our old, conservative and Intellectual but withal courageous aud hustling New England capital of a half century ago. While In Cortland I would haunt the reportorlul depart tueuts of the dally newnpapers, the ever-welcoming rooms of the numer ous business clubs and the booming departments of the great railroad and navigation lines centering In that superb Pacific metropolis. Then I would light out and Into the modern paradise of happiness and dollars, the virgin Interior of that wonderful state, a world lu It self, containing to spare and then lots more everything that makes for health, bustle, prosperity and con tentment for man, woman and child. If I were possessed of f 20,000 to $50, capltal. In a twolvmonth I would telegraph back to liradstreet aud Dun to mark my rating $125,000 and then three t welvmonthcj later I would wire them to make It from half to three-quarters of a million. If I had only my carfure, Iilble, dlctfonary and fountain pen, I would send word to the old folks to watch out for the Christmas coming of the old borne mortgage lifter, and I would bet my pal dog, for of course I would have blm along, agalust a pouch of tobacco, that when Christ mas came I wouldn't be making ex cuses for not coming Kust. Details? Bosh: When you wake up In (Jolconda you shoultl not waste time looking for a business guide. All you need Is a rake and a bag. WENATCHEE PLANS FOR WIDE MARKET M. I. Shot well and Grant 1'atton, directors of the Wenatchee Valley Krult Growers' association, have Just returned from a trip to the east ern states looking over the apple market for the present season and In an Interview with the Wenatchee Re public state: "The results of our four weeks' trip," said Mr. Sbotwell this morn ing, "surprised myself nnd the other three memlers of our party. We found a lively demand among dis criminating dealers for Wenatchee apples, and we have arranged to move the association's output to consumers through representative aud responsible dealers. I feel satis- fled that the association's plan solves the marketing problem. Now that we have bargained to supply the denlers with Wenatchee frult we must get It for them. They are de pending upon us, and the growers must co-operate lu the plan." Mr. Shotwell declares that In the barrel districts the apple crop condi tions are as promising at least as they were last year, while In all the box districts the Ind1cutlus are for much heavier yields than last year. He returned here by way of the Canadian Pacific railroad through northwest Canada. "Northwest Canada," he said, "af fords natural markets for our lower grade apples and for our soft fruits. Considerable of our output has gone there In past seasons, particularly last year, aud It has given the ut most satisfaction. In nil the Canad ian northwest cities the dealers were the association and there Is no doubt of our doing n good business with them."
