ELKS VlSltlOOD RIVER VALLEY While no formal effort was made by Hood Klver to entertain the visit ing Klks at Portland, a lare num ber of the IS. P. O. K. availed them selves of the opportunity of seeing the Hood lilver valley by making the trip to Hood Klver on the steam er (iatzert and returning on the late evening train. A large crowd of San Francisco boosters were In the city Friday and did the town lu an Innocent way. When ready to take the train they started up the song, "How lry I Am, How Iry I Am," to the tune of "(), Happy Pay," nnd they sure did ine singing that caused the old timers around the de pot to stand on their tip toes and prick up their ears. It may be that some of the old resldeiiters were ex pecting to get a glimpse of some one pulling a cork, but there was noth ing doing. Local Nimrods Whip West Fork L. W. Clark and .ludge A. J. Derby left Sunday for a ten days' stay on the headwaters of Hood Klver to try their luck angllnjr the speckled beau ties of the clear water fork of Hood Klver. It Is stated by partltswho have been fishing on the west fork that It Is exceptionally line this sea son. I he stream from the slide up the river Is one of the finest fishing grounds In the valley. Circus Day Draws Crowd Not wlthstanplng the fact that the Kit Carson Circus struck the city on a legal holiday appointed by liovern or West, and when over one half of the citizens had gone to Portland to witness the IClks' parade, a large number of the farmers were In the city nnd attended the wild animal show. The company carries three brass bands. Music, peanuts, pop corn and red lemonade were the ord er of the day. Teal Continues Ml;h Water Landing The steamer J. N. Teal of the Open Klver Transportation company Is still landing near Hooil Klver. Their dock has been moved down the Hood river channel ton position of easy ac cess for the transfer companies of the city. The dock of the Kegulator line of steamers was moved to the low- water landing east ol the city last week. Hoth boat companies have done a heavy freight and passenger business during the period that the steamers could make the landings near the city. Real Esiaic Dulieiiu Are You in the Market for a Snap?
