The church was crowded with friends of the school and the program was well rendered. The special music at the morning service was excellent and much praise is due the director, Mrs. Keavls. The Misses Muerner of Chicago spent Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Cauller. E. Brayford has returned with his bride. They are visiting his niece, Mrs. Jones. E. G. Palmer, who has been 111 for some time. Is slowly Improving. Mr. Swearlngen, president of the Commercial Club of Toledo, Ore., Is visiting J. H. Jeffrey. Mr. MeCall and family of Odell spent Sunday with Mrs. Murphy. E. (). Hall, who purchased the Shipley property, Is building an ad dition to the bouse. Hall, re turned to Oregon City last week. Frauds Irwin returned from Tort land Saturday to spend his Easter vacation at his ranch. George W. Ulodgett, alias "Charlie Kcofleld." returned to his place In the I'pper Valley last week, after I having spent several months at the McCrva ranch. The program committee of the West Side I mprovemeiit Club, which! t omprlses the district of Frankton, Barrett, East Barrett and Oak Grove, expects to arrange for an other good live meeting for May, so keep an eye open for notices. Miss Nell Shelley will give a recital, consisting of readings, monologues, vocal ami instrumental music, at the Oak Grove hall Friday evening, April 12, at h o'clock. George Gladen Is Installing a new water system by which he expects to furnish water for his own and the English ranches. The electric light poles ire to be Installed west from the store to J. I. Miller's and the line put up In the near future. W. E. King has extended his at tractive rustle fence further along the road and It looks fine. The special Easter services at the Oak Grove church were enjoyed by all of the overflowing attendance. WINANS CITY April weather finds all the apple ranchers busy In their orchards, while the young folks have already begun to visit the Devil's Punch Bowl, near Wlnan's summer resort. W. H. Brown has been one of the busiest men Improving the "Hebrew Land," better known as Thus. J. Collins' old orchard. Mr. Brown Is an expert orchardlst anil deserves credit for the pruning and the change be has made In the old orchard. He has also set out several hundred young trees. Mr. Vanderllp and his father-ln-Ibw, Mr. Nlckelsen, are busy slash Ing and getting ready for clearing their new ranch. Mr. Charles, under the Instruction of Mr. Wilson, Is getting the Little field ranch In good cultivation. Mr. Kountree, below the Orchard City Kanch, Is one of the busy ones. Mr. Westerburg, foreman of the Ho 01 Klver Fruit Growing Co., Is busy on his orchard, plowing, prun ing and spraying. Mr. aud Mrs. Cornetllsou are pre paring to move from the "Hebrew Synagogue" to In-e, where he will be employed by the Oregon Lumber Co. Great Improvements have been made on the Fred M. Holstecn ranch, now called the Orchard City Kanch, by the manager, O. N. Wllsyii of Bur llngton, Iowa. He has t rented t house to a new coat of pulnt and tin proved the premise until Mr. Hnl steen won't know his own place when he arrives In May. Mr. Wilson Is now busy clearing 20 acres for young trees. J. Blaine Gordon, the contractor, will break up camp and leave for Portland next week. Her mother Is with her but exects to return as soon as she can leave Gertrude. Many of Mrs. Waterbury's friends here will be sorry to hear of her death. She died at Estaeadit where they were living. Walter Mehans spent the week end with friends at Pine Grove. Mr. and Mrs. A. L McCaulay have returned to their home In Central Vale. Mr. MeCaulay's brother came to spend the summer here. Mrs. George Scarlett entertained the Embroidery Club last week. F. M. Mi Klttrlck '-x peels his sister from Portland this week to make them a visit. Edward Cherry has left for Idaho ODELL Geo. Atkinson of Washougal, form erly of Odell, w as here for a short visit during the week. He returned home Sunday accompanied by his sinter, Miss llattle, who has been at tending school here. The Easter services held here Sun day were largely attended and a very good program was rendered. C. It. Martz arrived from Wood burn Saturday. He expects to w ork here during the summer. Next Friday evening Mrs. Fergu- son's Sunday School class will meet at Mrs. Ferguson's home. Duncan of Hood Klver took a party of prospectors toCamasval ley this week on a land prospecting trip. It was the lirst through auto trip of the season. A. II. Olson of Eyle, Minnesota, has purchased 20 acres of the I. N. Williams place. Not only that, but he became so well pleased with the country and Its prospects that he says he will buy 2d acres more und has sent to Minnesota for his wife. The old house on the Geo. Smith place three miles up the valley was burned to the ground last Sunday noon. While G. W. Murphy, the renter, was at the spring lire broke In the upper part of the house and had gained so much headway by th time he returned that all he could save of the contents was the clothing and a trunk. Site No. II Is now being prosjH-cted by the Northwestern for Its proposed dam on the White Salmon. First the Narrows was selected nnd a lot of money spent trying to locate lcd rock on the east side of the river. Not finding Ideal conditions they moved up to the old bridge back of the Cameron farm and have done considerable sluicing, besides drilling the bed of the river for Its formation. In the pnst few days they have moved up about l'MI feet to "The Jaws," a rock canyon measuring about 70 feet at Its base. nnd a very liberal offering made by the scholars. What might have been an exceed ingly serious conflagration occurred sn the store of Tom Badder last week. The fire Is thought to have beencnused by a cigarette which was thrown In a box of sawdust and smouldered all night. As It was. no great damage was done other than burning a hole In the Moor and badly charring a part of the counter. Miss Edith Waterman, a deaconess evangelist, was at the Methodist church for a few days conducting a series of evangelistic services. The Easter sale conducted on Sat urday afternoon by the Ladles' Aid Sisdety wos a financial success ami was largely patronized by towns people. Many new faces are seen on our streets as the result of the starting up of the mill. Easter Sunday was observed In mi appropriate manner at the Metho dic! church.
