I). 2. 10-llc F "SUMMERVILLE" GETS CHRISTENED The residents of that section which lies immediately north of Parkdale thought the time had arrived when that locality should be designated by a name, and a meeting was accordingly called for the purpose of selecting one. Obadiah M. Bailey, who had the honor of naming Parkdale, pre sided, and read a communication from Charles Isham Moody, who is wintering in California, sug gesting the name of "Kensing ton Hollow." A large number thought the first half was very pretty, but wondered what they had tto hollow about with the macadam road only a mile away, Deacon Putty thought, as this was the finest apple region, that Eden would be appropriate, But it was not until Lew Tomlin- son. in one of his well-known outbursts of oratory, recommend ed the name of "Wishart Cor ners" that the meeting got be yond control. Hats were thrown in the air and everyone was shouting and cheering; previous ly suggested names were with' drawn, and motions came from all parts of the hall to make it unanimous. During the turmoil Jim Wishart mounted the ros trum and was received with re newed applause. Quiet being restored, he said: Fellow neighbors: The Eng lish language connot adequately furnish words to express my feelings at this spontaneous out burst or enthusiasm. It is im possible at this moment to prop erly thank you for this great honor, an honor that I assure you I appreciate. Yet my mod esty will not permit of its con summation. You will all agree with me that it is not nec essary to christen this section to perpetuate my name, but, con tinued Jim, "I would like to have the privilege of naming the place. Such cries as Name it. Jim and You can have any thing you want, Jim, came from all parts of the hall. After unanimous consent had been given, Jim, in a neat speech, chnstened the section Summer ville." WOODMEN SAW WOOD, BUT HAVE NOTHING TO SAY A procession of able-bodied men were seen on Friday morn ing wending their way over the proposed macadam road in the direction of the Rev. V an Nuys forest. It was reported that a conclave of the Ancient and Modern Woodmen, assisted by the Daughters of the Forest, was being held, but your correspond ent could not verify the state ment. Those interviewed were very reticent and would not talk, but just sawed wood. MAN IS CANDY KID" With the tooting of horns, the firing of cannon and the ringing of bells, the rural free delivery was inaugurated in the Upper Valley on f nday last and each piece of mail matter was accom panied by Candee. It is pleas ing to note the civic pride with which this innovation was re ceived by some who erected strikingly artistic box posts. A few that attracted attention were those of C. Walton, which was of rustic design; VV. Bentley's was made of hand carved applewood, while that of Johnny Cooper was of Colonial pattern. Charles Steinhauser, the father of R. F. D., is having one made of orna mental wrought iron. Owing to the congratulations and refresh ments of which the carrier was the recipient, the time of deliv ery extended a little beyond the schedule.
