The nupply of Htrlctly fancy fruit of large nlzeit Iihh turned out to be tremendoUHly Hhort, and the demand for such fruit has devel oped very HtronKly, at prices quite a little twtter than last year. "The Hltuatlon In a nutshell Is this: for extra fancy fruit of large sizes 4 tier and larger the supply Is Insuffi cient to supply the demand; and prices, therefore, are very strong. On the other hand, there Is no demand for off grades and especially for small sizes 1 and .Vtter. Unfortunately certain dlHtrlcts, notably Idaho, are producing a preponderance of smull sizes from one-third to one-half of the total being 5-tler." Authorities estimate that the deal will clean up at a very early date this year, earlier than ever In-fore In recent yeurs. Six room bungalow, corner I Oth and Cascade avenue, for sale. Choice lot. There Is many a grandfather and grandmother, whose ejes are dim, who like nothing better than to sit and listen to The Companion stories and articles. Many a blind person, and even those who. The reading of The Youth's Companion Is a pretty sure cure for all kinds of loneliness. The Youth's Companion, 144 Berke ley St., Boston, Mass. Some Pumpkins Brlce Martin contributed two giant squashes to the Grant & Staples real estate establishment this week. One of them has reached the astounding growth of six feet four Inches In cir cumference any way you run the tape line around It. Its weight Is I'M pounds. The other squash Is a freak of nature. The vine on which It grew ran over a rail fence and the baby squash started life on top of the rider and right between two stakes. It grew so large It hung down on both sides of the rider anil pushed ngalnst the stakes so that their Impression Is marked ou Its contour. This squash Is four feet long ou the convex side and about three feet long on the concave side. It Is about two feet wide. It has somewhat the appearance of a huge Scotch cap. Ashland Chronicle. PLAN Distributors are unanimous In de claring that a less proportion of the crop of the Wenatchee Valley winter apples Is going forward on com mis sion this season than In any former year; and another fact, says the Wenatchee Kepubllc, which Is quite surprising In view of the report early In the summer of heavy yields In the east. Is that the fruit Is mov ing to market without the least difficulty. Itepresentatlves of eastern houses a few months ago said that on ac count of the scarcity of money and the enormous crop In the eust, the apple market here could not I opened on a cash basis; and for a while their assertions were given considerable credence. Their state ments, however, relative to condi tions, were unwarranted In fact, and as a result their predictions have failed of fulfillment. The crop of good apples In the east Is short, and growers there, according to all the trade Journals, are getting as good, If not better, figures for their fruit than they did last year. The experience of the present sea son, like that of almost every previ ous year, demonstrates that no reli ance can be placed In the reports and statements of eastern distrib uting bouses as to crop conditions.
