HOOD RIVER MINERAL WATER PLACED IN USE The Hood Klver Mineral Springs company has been busy during the post week attempting to control a large vein of mineral water that Hows about twenty feet under the ground. Two foot cement casings were sunk a few days ago with which to corner the water, but after purtlally gathering It the pressure burst the codings. Ke-enforced cas ings have since been sunk and the water was corralled Friday ulght In the upright caxlngs and has risen to a level of about -0 feet, where It Is overflowing the top of the casing. CITY OFFICERS GATHER IN POKER PLAYERS Chief of Police Rolert Lewis and Night Watchman Hickox made a raid on a poker game lust week la an upper room In the city. Consider able money was on the table when the raid was made and it wus con fiscated by the chief. The poker players pleaded guilty and were fined $10 and costs. They were sur prised to see a gun pointed at them by the chief with orders to hold up their hands. Dethman Buys City Home Ity purchasing the handsome resi dence of E. A. Frnnz on Oak street, Friday, Chris Dethman, one of the valley's oldest and wealthiest apple growers, will tiecoine a resident of the city and spend part of the year In town. Although owning one of the linest homes lit the valley, Mr. Dethman wants to give his children the advantages of a high school ed ucation, and Is-Ileves the latter can be iK'tter accomplished by their re siding In the city.
