Finnish American Folk Festival returns to reunite
BY M.J. CODY
It seems unlikely that researching
the use of simple words and phrases
like “log truck,” “coffee” and “bak-
ing” would evolve into a multi-day
festival, but that’s what happened in
Naselle, Washington.
The Finnish American Folk Fes-
tival celebrates its 40th year and
20th festival this July, having been
held every other year since 1982 –
and it’s all thanks to Finnish linguist
Pertti Virtaranta and graduate student
Hanelle Johnsson Korhola.
