    Oregon poet laureate
to read in Manzanita
MANZANITA –
Anis Mojgani, Ore-
gon’s poet laureate,
will read from his
works at Hoffman
Center for the Arts at
1 p.m. on Sunday.
Mojgani is the
author of five books,
a libretto and a forth-
coming children’s
book. His reading
will close the center’s
monthlong poetry
walk.

Trail’s End Art Association
invites submissions for show
GEARHART – Artists are invited to sub-
mit works to Trail’s End Art Association for
the group’s 71st Annual Judged Show.
The gallery will accept submissions
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday and Mon-
day. Items accepted may include painting,
drawing, photography, sculpture and mixed
media. Selected pieces will be displayed
from Aug. 5 to 27.
Entries are free for association members
and $20 per piece or $30 per two pieces for
nonmembers, plus additional sales com-

Cascadia Chamber Opera to perform ‘The Banshee’
ASTORIA – Cascadia Chamber Opera
will perform “The Banshee,” an opera by
Daniel Daly, at Charlene Larsen Center for
the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. on Friday and
4 p.m. on Sunday.
The show will feature student singers

from the University of Oregon alongside
the Elsewhere Ensemble, a Eugene-based
performance group. The opera tells the
story of an Irish legend.

The Musers fuse bluegrass,
strings at KALA Saturday
ASTORIA – Acoustic trio
The Musers will play at KALA at
8 p.m. on Saturday.
Presenting tunes from their
fourth album, “Beautiful Myster-
ies,” the group will perform a set
featuring the banjolin, mando-
lin and guitar. Their original songs
are inspired by genres as diverse
as Applachian bluegrass, gospel,
string music and the San Francisco
folk music scene.
