Garden party series off ers
volunteering, plant education plans trail, road improvements
ASTORIA – Lewis and
Clark National Historical Park
will host the fi rst in a series of
weekly garden parties at Netul
Landing from 1 to 3 p.m. on
Thursday.
Held at the landing’s ethno-
botanical garden, the session
will include park restoration,
native plant education and dis-
cussions about gardening. This
event will repeat each Thursday
through September.
This event is free and open
to the public. Participants are
asked to bring gloves, water,
snacks and weather appropriate
clothing. Tools will be provided
by the park. For more informa-

The Art Trail at Willapa National Wildlife
Refuge in Long Beach.
LONG BEACH, Wash. – Willapa National
Wildlife Refuge has planned a series of trail
maintenance and visitor facility improvements
throughout summer and fall.
The Art Trail and Cutthroat Climb Trail will
remain closed for the season to allow critical
repairs, as will some parking access and public
restrooms. Access to the refuge headquarters
will be restricted through mid-August.
The refuge’s boat launch and parking area
will remain open, so that visitors will be able to
access Long Island. Trails adjacent to the South
Bay parking area will also remain open. For more

True Life Trio to perform at KALA
ASTORIA – Weaving Eastern European
traditions into music for Northwest audi-
ences, folk group True Life Trio is set to
perform at KALA at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The trio, consisting of vocalists and per-
cussionists Leslie Bonnett, Bridget Boyle and
Juliana Graff agna, take listeners on a journey
through musical styles of Ukraine and Bul-
garia, as well as Louisiana’s C ajun country.
Admission for the show is $20. All ages
are welcome. Doors open at 7 p.m. Advance
tickets can be purchased at www.brownpap-
ertickets.com.
ILWACO, Wash. – Washington State
University Master Gardeners of Pacifi c
County will host a p lant c linic and i nfor-
mation c enter at Columbia Pacifi c Heri-
tage Museum on Saturday from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m.
Gardeners will be on site at the muse-
um’s Discovery Garden to answer ques-
tions about plants, landscape and lawn
care. Visitors are encouraged to bring
plant samples if possible.
This event is free and open to the pub-

True Life Trio will perform in Astoria on Sunday.
Astoria exhibit spotlights borders, migration
ASTORIA – BorderXer, an exhibit by art-
ist Patricia Vasquez Gomez, will open at the
Anita building at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The exhibit focuses on physical and emo-
tional boundaries, including a look at top-
ics of migration, gender and culture. Gomez’s
mixed media artwork focuses on ethics and
social engagement.
An opening reception will be held for the
event from 4 to 7 p.m., featuring workshops
and presentations. The exhibit will be on dis-
play through Sept. 10.
The exhibit and reception are free and open
