The Knappa Fire District received two LUCAS 3 chest compression
devices, purchased with funds donated by Columbia Memorial
Hospital. The devices ‘can sustain life-saving circulation during
prolonged resuscitation attempts,’ Fire Chief Kurt Donaldson
said. Members of the fi re district trained on the devices last
month. Donaldson and the fi re district requested funding
from Columbia Memorial in December. ‘Ensuring that a chest
compression device can be available for all cardiac events
occurring in the area was an easy decision,’ said Erik Thorsen,
Columbia Memorial’s CEO. Pictured, from left, with a LUCAS 3,
