Astoria FFA
chapter wins
award
The Astoria FFA Alumni
and
Supporters
chap-
ter was named the Oregon
FFA Alumni and Support-
ers outstanding chapter of
the year, and will represent
Oregon at the national FFA
convention in October in
Indianapolis, competing for
the national award.
The chapter’s achieve-
ments included a $30,000
investment in a greenhouse,
advocating for agriculture
education, participation in
state, regional and national
FFA alumni conferences,
outstanding teacher sup-
port during the pandemic
and off ering Supervised
Agricultural
Experience
scholarships to local FFA
students.
DAR members
place in national
contest
The National Society of
the Daughters of the Amer-
ican Revolution announced
that Astoria Chapter mem-
ber Doris Dramov placed
fi rst in the American heri-
tage contest for her needle-
point pillow; Sandra Fuller,
Jennie Jo McCormick and
Sue Glen placed fi rst in art
and sculpture, the other cat-
egory for their game, Agent
355; and Glen placed third
in the hand quilting category
for her falling leaves quilt.

honors sexual
violence survivors
The Harbor is organiz-
ing its fi rst teal human rib-
bon to honor survivors of
sexual violence in Clat-
sop County. Community
members are welcome to
help form the symbol for
an aerial photograph at

Lum’s donates to
literacy program
WARRENTON

Children’s literacy non-
profi t SMART Reading has
received a $2,500 grant from
Lum’s Auto Center to con-
tinue providing reading sup-
port to children at Pacifi c
Ridge Elementary School in
Seaside.
“Lum’s is proud to be a
sponsor of the SMART pro-
gram,” said Julie Lum, an
owner at Lum’s.
For
three
decades,
SMART Reading has paired
community volunteers with
elementary school students
for in-person, one-on-one
reading sessions. The orga-
nization also provides stu-
dents with new books to
keep.

SEASIDE — Jahzara Marshall, a Seaside student, won
the local, district and Northwest Region 1 (Alaska,
Idaho, Oregon and Washington) Elks Hoop Shoot
contests in the 10 to 11 age group. Hoop Shoot
chairmen John Morris and Brian Taylor have announced
she will now compete, with 71 other regional winners,
in the national competition in Chicago on April 30, the
50th anniversary of Hoop Shoot.
