    Opera to be
performed
in astoria

ASTORIA — Tickets are available for
two Cascadia Chamber Opera concerts,
scheduled at 7 p.m. July 30 and 4 p.m. on
Aug. 1 at the Charlene Larsen Center for
the Performing Arts, 588 16th St. Tickets
are available at partnersforthepac.org
The group will perform Gian Carlo
Menotti’s opera “The Old Maid and the
Thief.” The show is a comic opera in
English that will last about an hour.
Tickets cost $16 for ages 11 and older;
children 10 and younger may attend for free.
Concert set
for Saturday
SEAVIEW — The Sou’wester His-
toric Lodge will host Portland sing-
er-songwriter Joshua Thomas for a con-
cert from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday at
the lodge, 3728 J Place.
The show will be open to all ages and
free to watch.
Clatsop Casa to
host benefit raffle
Clatsop CASA is hosting
a benefit raffle until Aug. 30
at bit.ly/2SV8D4z
A total of 500 tickets will
be sold for $20 each. Tickets
will be entered into a draw-
ing to win one of seven raf-
fle baskets, valued between
$800 and $1,000. The orga-
nization is aiming to raise
$10,000.
Prizes include a free din-
ner at Bridgewater Bistro;
a stay at the Cannery Pier
Hotel; a couple’s massage
from Allure Spa; a vehicle
leveling kit from OCD Per-
formance & Offroad; and a
membership at the Colum-
bia River Maritime Museum,
among others.
author to discuss
Oregon’s preservation
of coastal
environments
Author Chuck Johnson
will discuss coastal environ-
ments during a virtual lec-
ture at 7 p.m. Wednesday at
bit.ly/3dQ6j6c
The lecture is hosted by
the Oregon Shores Conser-
vation Coalition, in honor
of its 50th anniversary. In
his presentation, “The Roots
of Oregon’s Coastal Con-
servation Legacy: Oppor-
tunities Taken, Opportu-
nities Missed,” Johnson
will explore Oregon’s her-
itage in preserving coastal
environments.
Johnson is the author of
“Standing at the Water’s
Edge: Bob Straub’s Battle
for the Soul of Oregon.” He
worked in the state Legisla-
ture and for Oregon nonprof-
its in the 1970s and 1980s
when much of Oregon’s
coastal environmental legacy
was created.
He serves as program
director for the International
Physicians for the Preven-
tion of Nuclear War and is
the co-chair of the Interna-
tional Steering Group of the
International Campaign to
Abolish Nuclear Weapons.
Volunteers sought
for county fair
ASTORIA — Astoria
Downtown Historic Dis-
trict Association is recruit-
ing volunteers to help out at

Volunteers are needed to
check IDs, sell tickets and
pour beverages. Volunteers
will get free admission to the
fair and be able to visit fair
booths and displays. Free
t-shirts and drink tickets will
also be provided.
The fair will feature
country singer Josh Turner
on July 30. Steve Augeri, a
former lead singer for Jour-
ney, will perform July 31.

Exhibit to feature
haystack rock-
themed art
CANNON BEACH —
Cannon Beach Arts Associa-
tion is accepting submissions
for an upcoming exhibit until
July 25 at cannonbeacharts.
org/open-call
The exhibit’s theme is
Haystack Rock. All medi-
ums will be accepted, includ-
ing 2-D and 3-D art. Artists
should limit their submis-
sions to three works total.
