In his presentation, “The Roots of Oregon’s Coastal Con- servation Legacy: Oppor- tunities Taken, Opportu- nities Missed,” Johnson will explore Oregon’s her- itage in preserving coastal environments. Johnson is the author of “Standing at the Water’s Edge: Bob Straub’s Battle for the Soul of Oregon.” He worked in the state Legisla- ture and for Oregon nonprof- its in the 1970s and 1980s when much of Oregon’s coastal environmental legacy was created. He serves as program director for the International Physicians for the Preven- tion of Nuclear War and is the co-chair of the Interna- tional Steering Group of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons.
