Indigenous art
ASTORIA — A new art exhibit
featuring Indigenous artists will be
debuted from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at
the historic Anita building, 1312 Com-
mercial St.
The exhibit, “Pᵸot-Choch,” is the
Chinook word for “Fort George.” The
exhibit’s title was chosen with guid-
ance from Tony Johnson, chairman of
the Chinook Indian Nation. Pieces were
curated by Steph Littlebird.
The exhibit will be displayed through
summer and features an all-Indigenous
collection of traditional and contem-
porary art, including carving, weaving,
beadwork, painting and photography.
The exhibit honors the original inhabi-
tants of the North Coast, the Chinook.
The gallery will be open from 1 to
5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and by
appointment. Funding for the proj-
ect came from a Precipice Grant
applied for by Liz Harris and Patri-
cia Vázquez Gómez. The exhibition
debuts a new wooden fl oor made possi-
ble by additional funding from the Ford
Foundation.
