New ‘Hometown’ exhibit comes to town
ILWACO, Wash. – The Columbia
Pacifi c Heritage Museum will hold
an opening reception for the Smith-
sonian traveling exhibit, “Home-
town Teams: How Sports Shape
America” from 1-3 p.m. on Satur-
day. The museum is located at 115
SE Lake St. Museum hours are from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through
Saturday. Admission is free on
Thursdays. The exhibit will be on
display through Jan. 4.
Baseball, soccer, hockey, bowl-
ing, kickball, surfi ng and more. Peo-
ple around the country are drawn
to compete in these sports, and still
more gather on the sidelines to cheer
for their favorite athletes and teams.
Nowhere do Americans more inti-
mately connect to sports than in
their hometowns. The Columbia
Pacifi c Heritage Museum will cele-
brate this connection as it hosts the
new exhibit.
“Hometown Teams” will cap-
ture the stories that unfold on the
neighborhood fi elds and courts and
the underdog heroics, larger-than-
life legends, fi erce rivalries and
gut-wrenching defeats. For more
than 100 years, sports have refl ected
the trials and triumphs of the Ameri-
can experience and helped shape the
national character.
