New ‘Hometown’ exhibit comes to town ILWACO, Wash. – The Columbia Pacifi c Heritage Museum will hold an opening reception for the Smith- sonian traveling exhibit, “Home- town Teams: How Sports Shape America” from 1-3 p.m. on Satur- day. The museum is located at 115 SE Lake St. Museum hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free on Thursdays. The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 4. Baseball, soccer, hockey, bowl- ing, kickball, surfi ng and more. Peo- ple around the country are drawn to compete in these sports, and still more gather on the sidelines to cheer for their favorite athletes and teams. Nowhere do Americans more inti- mately connect to sports than in their hometowns. The Columbia Pacifi c Heritage Museum will cele- brate this connection as it hosts the new exhibit. “Hometown Teams” will cap- ture the stories that unfold on the neighborhood fi elds and courts and the underdog heroics, larger-than- life legends, fi erce rivalries and gut-wrenching defeats.
