16 // COASTWEEKEND.COM North Coast Chorale gears up for new August hikes with Angora Hiking Club season with potluck, rummage sale The North Coast Chorale, led by Denise Reed, at Clatsop Community College’s Performing Arts Center. ASTORIA – The North Coast Chorale will hold a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 16 and 17 at the Clatsop Community Col- lege Performing Arts Center. Browsers will be able to fi nd a variety of items rang- ing from art to collectables. The chorale will host a potluck picnic for its mem- bers and those consider- ing membership on Sunday, Aug. 25. There will be a short meeting with an overview of the program for the cho- rale’s winter concert, an out- line of the chorale’s par- ticipation in the Cascadia Chamber Opera’s perfor- mance of “H.M.S. The chorale welcomes new alto, tenor, soprano and bass singers with all levels of talent, including students with strong voices in grades 7-12, senior citizens and those in between. Clatsop Community Col- lege students earn one credit each term with their par- ticipation in this commu- nity chorus. There are no audi- tions. Anyone interested is encouraged to take part. The chorale begins its season Sept. 10 at the Performing Arts Center with registration at 6 p.m. Rehearsals are from 6:45 p.m. until 9 p.m. every Tuesday. U-Pic k 100% Natural The Angora Hiking Club is hosting two hikes Saturday Aug. 17 and 24 at Coffenbury Lake at Fort Stevens and at Neahkahnie Mountain. The hike at Coffenbury Lake on Aug. 17 wil be led by state park ranger Dane Osis. Hiker can enjoy the lake and forested acres on this 3.5 mile hike around the lake through the dune areas near DeLaura Beach. Hikers will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the North Cof- fenbury parking area at Fort Stevens. A $5.00 daily or annual state park pass is required. Call hike coordi- nator Linda Dugan at 503- 440-3909 by Friday, Aug. 16, if you are planning to attend. The hike of Neahkahnie Mountain on Aug. 24 is a medium to diffi cult hike. The mountain’s sum- mit is 1,600 feet, the high- est headland on the west coast. This 2.6 mile hike is worth the magnifi cent view of the Nehalem River Valley and coastline. Meet at 9:45 at the Highway 101 turn out parking area half a mile south of Oswald West State Park. Call hike leader Joe Balden at 503- 368-7807 by Friday, Aug. 23, if you plan to participate. Both hikes will have car pools available leav- ing from the parking lot at Marine Drive between 2nd and 3rd Streets west of Burger King departing at 9 a.m. You do not need to be a member to “blaze the trail” with us. Auditions set for Ilwaco fall radio plays ILWACO, Wash. — Peninsula Players are seek- ing actors to appear in the theater troupe’s latest production. Three radio plays will be presented this fall on Sept. 20 to 29. Actors will not have to memorize their lines because the pieces will be presented in an old-style radio format with scripts on stage, said board mem- ber Andy Tauber. The plays are “Fran- kenstein,” “Dracula” and “Marionettes, Inc.” “Dracula” will be performed 4 p.m. Oct. 31 and kick off children’s Halloween trick or treating. Auditions will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, Wednesday, Aug. 14, and Thursday, Aug. 15, at the River City Playhouse, 127 Lake St., Ilwaco.
