2 // COASTWEEKEND.COM Junior Shanghaied ‘A Night at the Olios!’ performances set for June 29, 30 Great Race brings historic cars to Astoria June 29 ASTORIA – The Astor Street Opry Company presents Junior Shanghaied “A Night at the Olios!” at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 29, and 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at the ASOC Playhouse, 129 W. Bond St. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. The box offi ce opens one hour before performances. Tickets are also available at asocplay.com. The performances are directed by Ashley Mundel with music direc- tion by ChrisLynn Taylor and fea- ture 12 ASOC youth performers ages 8 to 17. The show is an old ASOC tradi- tion of song, dance and comedy in the playhouse’s traditional American musical hall. All acts and performances are appropriate for families and children. ASTORIA – The 2019 Great Race, an antique, vintage and col- lector car competitive controlled-speed endur- ance road rally on pub- lic highways from Riv- erside, Calif., to Tacoma, Wash., makes its pit stop at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Barbey Maritime Center, 2042 Marine Drive. More than 100 com- peting automobiles will be arriving in one-minute intervals from 10 a.m. to Noon. Local car enthusiasts are welcome to bring their classic cars to add to the atmosphere. The Great Race, which is not a speed race, began 36 years ago and covers 2,300 miles of road over nine days. The “racers” will arrive in Astoria via the Astoria Bridge and will stop at the Barbey Maritime Center for about 25 minutes while they stretch their legs and grab a snack before con- tinuing east on Highway 30 to their lunch stop in Longview, Wash. At each stop on the Great Race, spectators will be able to visit with the participants and look at the cars. The rally event is recorded and the television coverage will air in the fall on Velocity and will also be featured in Hemmings Motor News publications.
