THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2019 // 3 Astoria High School hosts Cultural Conversations ASTORIA — The Astoria High School Honors English 10 class is hosting Cultural Conversations from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in the AHS Commons. The event is a chance to connect community mem- bers through their stories. Jenni Newton, who started the event, was inspired by the program “The Human Library.” The students are hosting storytellers from more than 20 different cultures. Tori Smith, a host for a storyteller representing taekwondo, said, “It’s a great chance to learn about other cultures in a unique way.” The speakers this year include a Kenyan, a U.S. Coast Guard offi cer, an Hispanic immi- grant and someone living with cancer. Kids, take a swing at golfi ng this summer LONG BEACH, Wash. — Penin- sula and Clatsop County area youth are invited to participate in the Peninsula Golf Course’s inaugural Summer Youth Golf Program, 9604 Pacifi c Way. This program is free for ages 6-18. Starting June 19, the Youth Golf Pro- gram is noon-3 p.m. every Wednesday until Aug. 28. Lunch is provided noon to 12:30 p.m. Youth will receive golf instruction, life skills and a fun, safe environment.
