ASTORIA — Philoso-
farian’s next Wit & Wis-
dom Philosophy Talk,
“Should We Play More?”
with Gad Perez, takes
place at 7 p.m. Thurs-
day, March 28, at Fort
George Brewery’s Lovell
Showroom.
We play in order to take
a break, to have some fun
or because we’re bored.
Moreover, play is
important in its own right,
too. It is crucial to the cre-
ative process, can open
us to new possibilities
and discoveries, and even
help us achieve things that
wouldn’t have been possi-
ble if we hadn’t taken the
time to be playful.
But what are these
things that are opened up?
Does play have a dark
side?
Doors open at 6 p.m.
Admission is free. The
venue is at 1483 Duane St.

NEHALEM — Do you
wonder if predators are
nearby when you’re hik-
ing through a coastal for-
est or just walking along the
beach?
At 10 a.m. Saturday,
March 30, join Nehalem
Bay State Park Ranger
Mariah Dawson for a
walk through the mead-
ows, marshland and creek
side of Alder Creek Farm
and Natural Area to learn
more about what animals
might be nearby. Dawson
will focus on area pred-
ators, where they roam,
other birds and animals
who share their habitat, and
how to recognize the signs
— droppings, footprints
and more — of predator
presence.
