Gladstone pitcher Madi- son Diggs tossed a three-hitter, with six strikeouts and no walks. Teammate Madison Brady was 3-for-4, scored twice and drove in three runs. Tara Lair had two of Seaside’s three hits. S EASIDE — Seaside banged out 12 hits in just four at-bats Sunday afternoon, in a con- solation fi nal of their own tourna- ment at Broadway Field. Eight teams took part in the annual three-day invitational, with Centralia winning the champion- ship fi nal with a 15-7 victory over Hockinson in a battle of two Wash- ington schools. The Gulls won Friday, lost a semifi nal game Saturday, then bounced back with a solid 12-2 win Sunday over La Center (Wash- ington) in the third-place game. Seaside scored eight runs in the second inning, and took advantage of a big day on the mound for Tra- vis Fenton, who gave up just two hits with two strikeouts and one walk, with four hit batters. Offensively, Payton Wester- holm began with a two-run, inside- the-park home run in the bottom of the fi rst. He walked with the bases loaded in the second inning, and fi nished the day with two hits, three runs scored and three RBIs. Brayden Johnson and McFadden also each had a double. Seaside takes to the road this week with games at Gladstone and Molalla, followed by a trip Friday and Saturday to the Treasure Val- ley Invitational in Ontario. Seaside opened the tournament Friday afternoon with a 14-0 win over Corbett. McFadden and Westerholm combined on a one-hit shutout, with McFadden striking out six with two walks in four innings, before Westerholm closed the game. Thompson drove in four runs and Meyer had three RBIs for the Gulls, who led 4-0 through three innings, then scored 10 runs in the fourth. On Day 2, Centralia broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the third inning, on its way to a 4-2 win over the Gulls. Centralia pitchers Jeremy Wood and Cameron Cabrera gave up just three hits, with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Wood started and went six innings, throwing 98 pitches to pick up the win. Thompson and Johnson pitched for the Gulls, allowing fi ve hits with fi ve strikeouts and four walks. Seaside committed four errors defensively. WARRENTON — There was no shortage of offense in a non- league softball game Friday at Warrenton, where the Warriors scored 11 runs in the third inning on their way to a 20-10 win over Nestucca. The season opener lasted just six innings, when Warrenton scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to reach the 10-run mercy rule. Warrior pitchers Mia McFad- den and Avyree Miethe scattered six hits with fi ve strikeouts, while Miethe drove in four runs and scored three times. Leadoff hitter Melia Kapua also scored three runs with three RBIs. Warrenton also took advantage of 13 walks and seven errors by the Bobcats. Nestucca scored seven runs of its own in the top of the fourth, and had the go-ahead run at the plate before McFadden struck out the fi nal batter. At the plate, six Warrenton players drove in two runs or more, and nine of 10 players had at least one hit. Morrow leads Warrenton past Nestucca, 12-2 Warrenton held a slim 4-2 lead over Nestucca heading into the bottom of the fi fth inning Friday afternoon, when the War- riors erupted for eight runs in a 12-2 win over the Bobcats in a nonleague baseball game at Huddleston Field. Jacob Morrow led the War- renton offense, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in. He highlighted his day with a solo home run in the fi rst inning. Devin Jackson pitched all fi ve innings for the Warriors, allowing four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks on 78 pitches. “Devin was very effi cient, and Jacob had a pretty darn good day at the plate,” said Warren- ton coach Lennie Wolfe, whose team collected 11 hits. Jackson and Gabe Breitmeyer were each 2-for-3. North Marion spoils Astoria home opener North Marion rapped out 15 hits and took advantage of fi ve Astoria errors Friday afternoon, helping the Huskies to a 13-3 win in a nonleague baseball game at Tapiola Park. The Fishermen held a 3-1 lead through three innings, before North Marion scored three runs in the fourth, added one in the fi fth and six in the sixth inning to take an eight-run lead. Adam Feldman had two of Astoria’s seven hits, while Burke Matthews drove in all three Fishermen runs with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fi rst inning.
