County seeks citizen help with budgets

ria to the east border of the
county, including Alder-
brook, Knappa, Svensen,
Brownsmead and West-
port. The other is for District
5 covering South County,
including Cannon Beach,
Arch Cape, Elsie, Hamlet,
Jewell and portions of Sea-
side. It is preferred but not
required that the applicants
live within the district they
represent.
The Road District 1 Bud-
get Committee has three
full terms ending Feb. 28,
2023, and two unexpired
terms ending Feb. 28, 2022.
The committee reviews the
district’s budget for road-
work on 220 miles of county
roads. Applicants must live

e xtension s ervice districts.
Citizen

review proposed budgets
and make recommenda-
tions to the Clatsop County
c ommission. Each com-
mittee is made up of fi ve
county commissioners and
fi ve appointed local resi-
dents. They generally meet
in May to review the pro-
posed budgets.
The Clatsop County Bud-
get Committee has two full
terms, each ending Feb.
28, 2023. The committee
reviews the county’s overall
operating budget.

Vehicle strikes pedestrian in Astoria

A pedestrian standing in
the roadway was hit by a
vehicle Sunday night near
Lief Erikson Drive and
43rd Street in Astoria.
Around 11:30 p.m. Sun-
day, police were dispatched
to the scene. An initial
investigation indicated that
Frankie McGuire, 28, of
Astoria, was standing in
the eastbound lane of Lief
Erikson Drive wearing
dark clothing. The driver,
Allyn Bauer, 21, of Naselle,
Washington, and other wit-
nesses stopped and ren-
dered aid.
McGuire was uncon-
scious at the scene. He was
taken to Columbia Memo-
rial Hospital in Astoria and
later transferred to Oregon
Health & Science Univer-
sity, where he was listed as
