munity College’s Performing Arts
Center, at Franklin Avenue and 16
Street. Tickets are $10 at the door.
The Chorale has chosen the
theme “Sing of Mary” as they
celebrate the life of Mary
through music.
A poor unmarried teenager of
Jewish linage, Mary represents
the marginalized in our society,
as she was marginalized in her
own time. Her faith in God is
what gave her hope — this is her
message to us today, depicted by
composers through the centuries.
The Chorale interprets her
story through the music of
Bach, Schumann, Rachmani-
noff, Rutter, Lauridsen, Cannon
Beach composer Stanly Glarum,
and songs such as “Ave Maria”
and the “Magnificat.”
The Chorale receives support
from the Oregon Arts Commis-
sion, a state agency funded by the
State of Oregon.

ILWACO — Enjoy rich sounds
of the season at the annual Tuba
Christmas concert, 2 p.m. Sat-
urday, Dec. 8, at the Columbia
Pacific Heritage Museum.
The show features the Asto-
ria Tuba Quartet performing a
variety of seasonal songs, jazz
arrangements and a polka or two
at this family-friendly event.
The tuba’s versatility allows
the quartet to perform traditional
Christmas selections like “Sleigh
Ride,” jazz selections by noted
arrangers Lenny Niehaus and Bill
Holman, the much-loved Ever-
green Polka and ATQ’s version of
the “Dance of the Reed Flutes”
(from the “Nutcracker Suite”).
The concert, sponsored by the
Ilwaco Merchants Association,
is free and open to the public.
Seating is limited. The museum is
at 115 S.E. Lake St.
