3A THE DAILY ASTORIAN • THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2018 Astoria woman indicted in federal drug trafficking case Stinnett one of 22 defendants By JACK HEFFERNAN The Daily Astorian An Astoria woman has been indicted on federal charges for her alleged role in a drug traf- ficking ring. Jessica Marie Stinnett, 39, was one of 22 people accused in the indictment, which was unsealed Wednesday. Author- ities arrested 17 people early Wednesday and expect all defendants to appear in court within a week, according to a U.S. Department of Justice press release. The indictment alleges that a Mexican drug cartel dis- tributed methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine to Victor Alva- rez Farfan, 43, of Ore- gon City. Far- fan allegedly then handed Jessica the drugs to Marie other defen- Stinnett dants to be sold throughout Oregon and Washington state. Stinnett was charged with conspiracy and posses- sion with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Most of the defendants appeared in a Portland federal court Tuesday. A two-week trial was set for December, according to The Oregonian. A combination of fed- eral, state and local authorities combined to investigate and arrest the defendants. “Today, thanks to the vig- ilance and sustained coop- eration of law enforcement agencies across Oregon, this cartel’s efforts to maintain their foothold in our commu- nities has been dealt a last- ing blow,” U.S. Attorney Billy Williams said in a statement. Stinnett and Travis David Carow, 40, of Astoria, were arrested in August on U.S. Highway 26 after more than half a pound of methamphet- amine was located in a car. In 2015, Stinnett was con- victed in Clatsop County Cir- cuit Court on charges of pos- session of methamphetamine and tampering with physical evidence. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail. Warrenton man arrested after crash By JACK HEFFERNAN The Daily Astorian A Warrenton man was arrested Wednesday night after a drunken-driving crash on the Skipanon River bridge. Emergency personnel responded to the bridge just before 8 p.m., finding a col- lection of debris surrounding a four-door 2006 Jeep Com- mander with missing front tires. The bridge was closed about an hour for cleanup. Jonathan Preuss, 33, of Warrenton, was driving west- bound on the bridge when he hit an abutment and lost a front tire, Warrenton Police Chief Mathew Workman said. The jeep then crossed over to the other side of the bridge, nearly missed a bicyclist, hit another section and lost the other front tire. It finally crossed back over to the westbound side and came to rest. “He basically pinballed,” Workman said. Preuss allegedly tried to drive away from the scene despite the damage, but the back tires were stuck in gravel. Preuss was taken to Colum- bia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, where he was treated for head injuries. He was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and taken to the Clatsop County Jail around 1 a.m., where he recorded a blood alcohol con- tent of 0.26 percent about five hours after the crash. More charges may follow as police attempt to locate the bicyclist, Workman said.
