Festival highlights women in film ASTORIA — The 12th Astoria International Film Festival takes place Friday through Sunday, Oct. 19 through 21, at the Liberty Theatre. This year’s festival theme is “Women in Film.” The festival will screen films from our past 12 years featuring women as directors, producers and subjects. In addition, there will be a panel discussion with noted filmmaker Beth Harrington, of Portland. Harrington has worked on several films for Oregon Public Broadcasting. The Labor Temple Bar is at 934 Duane St. Teddy talk: Former president visits Clatsop County ASTORIA — “Teddy Roosevelt’s Or- egon Roadshow,” a live performance by historical recreator Joe Wiegand, will visit Clatsop Community Col- lege’s Performing Arts Center for a presentation on Friday, Oct. 19, as part of a five-day tour of schools, museums and historical societies across Oregon. The tour is organized by the Or- egon Historical Society, sponsored by Wells Fargo and presented by the Clatsop County Historical Society. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., guests will have a chance to meet the president during a special reception at the Heri- tage Museum. At 7 p.m. he will make a public address at the PAC. Meriwether Lewis: ‘no regular botanist’ FORT CLATSOP — Lewis and Clark National Histor- ical Park, Fort Clatsop, is pleased to announce the next In Their Footsteps free speaker series event. “Altho’ no regular botanist” — President Thomas Jefferson’s Reference to Meriwether Lewis — with Carol Lu- cas takes place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. in the Netul River Room of the visitor center. It would have been customary for Jefferson to have sent a botanist on the Lewis and Clark Expedi- tion. A primary purpose of the trip was to assess what resources, including plants, were in the lands to the west.
