3C THE DAILY ASTORIAN • FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 2018 Brutus, 13, and Brody, 6, are Kari Borgen’s English springer spaniels. They live in Warrenton. Ollie, 6, and Jed, 5 months, live with Heather and Joe Jenson in Astoria. Ollie is an English mastiff Lab and Jed is a bloodhound. Shelby, 5, is an Australian cattle dog/pointer mix who lives with Crindalyn Lyster in Long Beach. She’s seen here at Waikiki Beach at Cape Disappointment State Park. SO MANY GOOD BOYS AND GIRLS! The Daily Astorian I n its third year, The Daily Astorian scooped up 171 photos featuring scads more pups for a National Dog Day section. That’s not unusual, because the coast has already proven it loves its pooches. What is different this year, was people got the chance to vote on their favor- ite dogs in an online contest at bit.ly/Vote2018 DogDays. Online, there are 183 photos; some were not used here because that pup or pups were already entered. The Top 10 vote-getters are fea- tured on the cover. More than 5,000 votes were cast. Thanks to all those who answered the call, shared their canine friends with the coast and came back each day to vote for their favorites. Thanks to all The Daily Astorian staffers who make this happen. Their pups are featured on this Barley, 2, is Carl Earl and Laura Sellers’ Welsh terrier bundle of fun, love and energy. Oh, and she doesn’t shed! page. Now, who’s a good boy? Who’s a good girl? Three-year-old Jasper the Chihuahua lives with Danielle and Dorian Fisher in Astoria. Ernie the boxer, 8, hangs his jowls with Jim and Sharon Stanovich in Astoria. Sadie, 2, and Honey, 5, are Holly Larkins’ black Lab and golden retriever.
