Riverbend Players bring
A.R. Gurney’s classic
play “Love Letters” to the
North County Recreation
District Performing Arts
Center in Nehalem, Friday,
July 6, through Saturday,
July 21.

A finalist for the Pulit-
zer Prize in Drama, this
American serio-comedy
has been performed and
loved around the world.
The play tells the story
of Andrew Makepeace
Ladd III and Melissa Gard-
ner, both born to wealth
and position, who ex-
change letters from grade
school though a lifetime of
experiences.
“The audience will
laugh out loud and be
moved to tears as the
stories and incredible rela-
tionship unfolds,” director
Mike Arseneault said.

“Shanghaied” began in
the mid 1980s with a bare-
bones budget and a cast of
fun, talented friends. It has
since grown into a piece
of Astoria folklore, enter-
taining more than 83,000
people in its history.
The story centers on the
shanghaiing of our hero and
his daring rescue — all in
melodramatic style, with
an audience encouraged to
cheer, boo, sigh and throw
popcorn!
