Our featured artist is Mary Schlunegger, a new member but a very accomplished artist in several media. Her show is titled “Wings and Waves.” A reception in her honor will be held during the Art Walk. In Schlunegger’s early childhood, her father made a little studio for her, which encouraged her love of drawing and painting throughout her life. Having spent most of her life growing up surfing the shores of California and Hawaii, she has drawn inspiration from those memories — and more recent ones after settling on the North Coast. Her work has appeared in several galleries: Fairweather House & Gallery, Buss Boutique, Gallery on 10th and Trail’s End Gallery and private collections. She received a First Prize and Honorable Mention in the 2017 Trail’s End Annual Show awards. Trail’s End Gallery is the oldest on the North Coast dating to the early 1900s when it was a two-room ‘Three Terns,’ an acrylic painting by Mary Schlunegger featured at Trails End Art Association schoolhouse. It was bought and turned into a gallery in the early 1950s. It’s a place where members can paint together, take classes, participate in monthly shows and enter an annual judged show.
