JUNE 28, 2018 // 3 Bibliophiles book it to Cannon Beach Library sale CANNON BEACH — The Cannon Beach Library’s annual Fourth of July Book Sale — one of the largest used book sales on the Oregon Coast — runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, through Saturday, July 7. The library will close Tuesday, July 3, to organize this massive sale. Other than the popular book-sale room, during this event, most library services will remain unavailable until Monday, July 9. This year, the Independence Day Parade coincides with the first day of the book sale, so the crowd waiting before the doors open is expected to be large. The fundraiser offers thousands of novels, mysteries, biographies, histories and other nonfiction titles; rare and old books; and perennially coast popular cooking, art and coffee table books, all at bargain-basement prices. The sale also includes hun- dreds of first editions, autographed and rare old books. As books sell, library volunteers refill sales tables, often adding discounted prices on CDs, DVDs or popular paperback series, and even free items. The Cannon Beach Library, located at 131 N. Hemlock St., op- erates as a private, member-owned, nonprofit organization with only a small subsidy from the city. The library’s success depends on donations, book drives, business contributions, fundraising events and volunteer labor. Last year’s book sale set a record of raising nearly 10 percent of the library’s annual budget.
