Jack Lester Birkby

Jack Lester Birkby was born in Sidney, always a place for a stranger turned friend to

basing out of Yuma, Arizona. Selling was all
about talking with people, learning about them, wife, Dorothy, at Willamette National Cemetery

600 passengers to the Port of
Astoria. The luxury cruise
ship Silver Explorer, which
visited Astoria earlier this
month, is still scheduled to
dock from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Assault
• At 1:50 p.m. Monday,
Anthony Vincent Fana, 37,
of University Place, Wash-
ington, was arrested by Ore-
gon State Police at the John
Day Boat Ramp and charged
with fourth-degree assault.
After arguing with another
man about a method of back-
ing a trailer onto the ramp,
Fana allegedly pushed the
69-year-old man off the
dock and into the water. The
alleged victim was bleeding
from his hands, wrists and
head and complained of back
soreness.
