MAY 3, 2018 // 15 Master Gardener hosts plant sale, seminar ASTORIA — Clatsop County Master Gardener Association is holding a spring garden seminar and plant sale 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Clatsop County Fair- grounds. Admission is free. Classes, vendors, raffles and gardening advice from Master Gardeners make this a daylong affair. Plant sale The plant sale is enor- mous this year. Tomato starts galore, vegetable starts, perennials, natives, ground covers, pollinators, succu- lents, ornamental grasses, Hostas, Dahlias and a great selection of houseplants and tropicals will be available. Dozens of vendors will be on hand selling all things related to gardening, with many gift options for Moth- er’s Day: garden art, garden tools, kitchen items, food items and nurseries with even more plant options. Seminar This year’s seminar — themed “Coastal Garden De- sign” — provides options to gardeners with limited space and those wanting to expand their garden with easy-care native plants. • “Edible Vertical Gar- dening in Small Spaces”: 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. • “Designing with Native Plants”: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. • “Grafting Vegetables”: 1:45 to 3 p.m. And more Raffles round out the fun with high stakes and good chances to win art, paint- ing lessons, luscious baked goods, restaurant certifi- cates, a charming umbrella, wine, beer and other great items. Do you dig flowers? Sign up for the Seaside Public Library’s “Drawing Flowers Work- shop” with local artist Dorota Haber-Lehigh! Sponsored by the Friends of the Seaside Library, the workshop will take place 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12. You must sign up for this class and can do so at the circulation desk or by phone. The class is free; all materials will be provided. In this back-to-basics drawing class, Haber-Le- high will engage partici- pants in fun and surprising sketching exercises to loosen the hand and draw with confidence. Participants will then draw flowers using the tech- niques they have learned. Haber-Lehigh will bring different species as exam- ples. Everyone is encour- aged to bring a favorite flower with you to use as a model. Haber-Lehigh received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pacific University with a focus on printmak- ing and art history. She designed, illustrated and published a children’s book, “ABC of Native Plants of the Coastal Pacific Northwest,” and is working on books about native berries and wild- flowers of the Pacific Northwest. She is also a member of the Oregon Botanical Artists and the Native Plant Society of Oregon. The library is located at 1131 Broadway St..
