Coastal Oregon Artist Residency open for submissions
Astoria Visual Arts (AVA)
and Recology Western
Oregon (RWO) are pleased
to announce the third round
of the Coastal Oregon Artist
Residency, which aims to
support the creation of art
from recycled, repurposed and
discarded materials recovered
from the Recology Astoria
Recycling Depot and Transfer
Station.
The deadline to submit ap-
plication materials is Sunday,
May 17.
The residency provides
selected artists with access to
discarded materials, a stipend
of $400 per month and a large
studio space at RWO’s War-
renton-based shop.
By supporting artists who
work with recycled materials,
AVA and Recology hope to
encourage people to conserve
natural resources and promote
new ways of thinking about
art and the environment. Two

Selection of artists
Our selection committee,
which is composed of arts
professionals and environmen-
talists, will review application
packets by Tuesday, June 3,
and select up to six candidates
for interviewing, with two
finalists and two alternates
ultimately selected. The
committee may contact artists
in advance of or during the
June 3 meeting to address
any questions or need for
clarification.
Currently, the committee
awards two residencies per
year. The committee will eval-
uate submissions based on the
artists’ demonstrated commit-
ment to resource conservation
and recycling through art,
how the residency can provide
the artist with professional
growth, the quality of previous
work and the artist’s repu-

committee also considers the
