LOB: Knappa 9, Dayton 5. Knappa baseball trounces Dayton, 15-3 DAYTON — The Knappa Loggers are in search of the best competition they can find before league play starts. Monday, they paid a visit to one of the top teams at the 3A level. And the previously undefeated Dayton Pirates managed to give the Loggers their first challenge of the season, even holding a 2-0 lead through two innings. But in the end, very few teams will be able to battle seven (or five?) innings with the Loggers, who rallied for a 15-3 win to remain unbeaten at 3-0. Knappa has out- scored its opponents (two 3A teams and one 4A) 45-3. The Loggers scored five runs in the third for all the runs they would need, but tacked on one in the fourth, two in the fifth and seven in the sixth to end the game after six innings. Knappa pitchers Eli and Dale Takalo scattered six hits, with 10 strikeouts and just two walks. The Loggers had 14 hits off three Day- ton pitchers, coupled with seven walks and two hit batters. Knappa leadoff batter Kaleb Miller had two hits, walked twice and scored three runs, and Reuben Cruz was 2-for-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in. Shaun Lackey was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs, and Dale Takalo had three hits with a double and two RBI’s. Seven different Loggers had hits. Clatskanie softball team defeats Astoria Astoria’s Lexxi Lyngstad had a three- run, bases-loaded double in the fourth inning, but that’s where the scoring ended for the Lady Fishermen in a nonleague softball game Monday with Clatskanie at CMH Field. The Tigers and freshman pitcher Shelby Blodgett defeated Astoria 8-3, handing the Fishermen their third straight loss to open the season. Astoria was com- ing off a 2-1 loss at North Marion last Fri- day, in which the Fishermen held a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. Still, “we’re slowly improving,” said Astoria coach Kent Israel, Jr. “Only three of our starters are at the same position they were last year. Against North Marion, we had one senior and two juniors in the lineup. The rest were freshmen and sophomores.” Astoria’s Hailey Ranta had two hits, including a double, in Monday’s loss. Blodgett and Kaity Sizemore com- bined on a four-hitter for the Tigers, with 10 strikeouts and five walks. The Tigers had 12 hits, two apiece for their top four hitters in the lineup. Kalani Ausmus and Trinity Hamm each had a tri- ple, while Olivia Sprague, Alexis Smith and Olivia Warren scored two runs each. — The Daily Astorian CL ASSIF IE D M ARK ETPL A CE P lace classified ad s o n lin e at w w w .d ailyasto rian .co m o r call 503-325-3211 107 Public Notices Occasionally other companies make telemarketing calls off classified ads.
