Theater workshop set for middle-school-aged kids CHINOOK, WASH. — The Peninsula Association of Performing Artists will host a theater workshop for middle-school-aged children 1 to 3 p.m. Satur- day, Feb. 24. The event will take place at the Fort Columbia Theatre in Chinook. There is no charge for partici- pating in the event, which will cover acting and backstage skills. Instruc- tors will be Brooke Flood and Ronald Thompson. “Whether you’ve never stepped foot on stage in your life or you’re looking to beef up your skills, this workshop is aimed at giving you a crash course in the process, from dreaming something up to making it a reality,” Flood said. ASTORIA — Clatsop Cruise Hosts welcomes new volunteers for its 2018 season. The hosts are volunteers who greet incoming cruise ships at various locations throughout Astoria. Clatsop Cruise Hosts conduct an annual luncheon and training for current and new volunteers. This year the event takes place 11:30 a.m. Fri- day, March 23, at the Columbia River Maritime Museum’s Barbey Center. The first ship of the season arrives Sunday, April 8, with the Star Prin- cess, a 2,600-passenger ship. A total of 25 ships are arriving to the Port of Astoria in 2018, including the Disney Wonder with more than 3,700 passen- gers. There are about 150 registered volunteers with Clatsop Cruise Hosts, and between 50 and 70 are needed to assist greeting each ship. Clatsop Cruise Hosts is a nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to ensuring cruise ship passengers, crew and staff are graciously wel- comed to our community and encour- aged to explore all the North Coast offers. Cruise Hosts are devoted to educating visitors about our history, local culture and activities.
