SATURDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY The Daily Astorian A soldier died at Camp Rilea on Wednesday of what appears to be an accidental gunshot wound, according to the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office is inves- tigating the shooting and has not released the soldier’s name. “Members of a regu- lar U.S. Army unit conduct- ing training at Camp Rilea reported a gunshot discharge in the housing area,” the sher- iff’s office said in a release. Maj. Stephen Bomar, a spokesman for the Oregon Military Department, said the shooting happened after train- ing hours. The sheriff’s office is in charge of the investiga- tion, with assistance from Army investigators, Bomar said. The soldier was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead. Camp Rilea in Warrenton is the primary training facil- ity for the Oregon National Guard.
