20 // COASTWEEKEND.COM Three rounds and a sound system Call for ASTORIA — The Liberty Theatre has been awarded the third and final grant needed to purchase and install a perma- nent sound system in the theater. Pacific Power Foundation has award- ed the Liberty the remaining $4,000 for the project. This will be combined with the previous awards of $22,000 by the James F and Marion L Miller Foundation and $15,000 from the Oregon Communi- ty Foundation. The theater currently pays between $1,000 and $1,500 per event to rent an adequate sound system for Liberty-pre- sented performances. Those systems often add hours of setup and tear-down time before and after each event, stress- ing our small staff. Outside promoters have to rent or bring their own sound system for their shows. This not only greatly impacts our budget but often results in patron and artist complaints about the inconsistency of sound from event to event. Having our own sound system that meets the unique design of the Liberty means we can control sound quality, train engineers in-house and provide consistent, optimum experiences for our patrons. Engineers have been brought in to model and study the acoustics of the theater and will provide assistance in the purchase and installation of the system.
