2A THE DAILY ASTORIAN • MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2017 Clatsop college board member receives top state honors Fishermen feast The Daily Astorian Rosemary Baker-Monaghan, a Clatsop Community College Board member since 2000, was named the Outstanding Board Member at Oregon Community College Associa- tion’s 2017 Howard Cherry Awards. College President Chris- topher Breitmeyer said in a release that Baker-Monaghan has been an outstanding leader, campus diversity champion, and passionate advocate for classroom security and cam- pus safety. “Rosemary’s dedication, focus and passion for higher education has served the con- stituents of Clatsop County responsibly and proudly,” he said. Colin Murphey/The Daily Astorian Oregon State University’s Sea Grant program hosted Clatsop County’s first ever Fish- ermen’s Appreciation Lunch at Englund Marine & Industrial Supply Co. on Thursday. Amanda Gladics, with the Astoria Sea Grant office, estimated 40 to 50 people attended from across facets of the commercial fishing industry. There was no set agenda, she said. The lunch was intended to be simply a community gathering for fishermen, their families and others in the industry. The lunch was based off a similar annual event in Newport. Gladics hopes to make it into a tradition here, as well. The Columbian newspa- per reported that Kris Greene, who was backed by proj- ect developers, conceded the election late Thursday night to Don Orange in the Port of Vancouver commissioner’s race. The race drew more than $1 million in cash and in-kind contributions. It has been seen by some as a referendum on Vancouver Energy’s project along the Columbia River that would handle about 360,000 barrels of crude oil a day. Orange captured 65 per- cent of the vote to Greene’s 35 percent. Supported by environ- mental groups, Orange cam- paigned on ending the port’s lease with Vancouver Energy. The lease allows for changes by either party every 90 days. the Seaside Police Department on S. Roosevelt Drive and charged with DUII, reckless driving and criminal mischief.
