Wildlife Center of the North Coast ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Wildlife Center of the North Coast (WCNC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organi- zation based near Astoria OR, that specializes in wildlife rehabilitation of resident and migratory birds, mammals and other wild creatures naturally occurring in Oregon. Founded in 1997, by Sharnelle Fee, we are celebrating 20 years of service this year and continue to provide wildlife rescue and support in communities from the Long Beach Peninsula down to Newport Oregon. We are on the front lines for wildlife in need, and receive an average of 2,000 animals per year that are starving, injured, orphaned or displaced. We are proud to provide these primary services to communities along 167 miles of coastline in Oregon and southwest Washington: • Humane care and professional medical treatment to sick, injured, orphaned and displaced native wildlife with the goal of releasing healthy wild animals back into their appropriate habitat; • Quality conservation + environmental education programs concerning local wildlife, their ecosystems, and the human impact on these systems and individuals; • Responsive rescue and helpful solutions to wildlife-related issues via our call center; • Meaningful volunteer opportunities for young people and adults; and • Long-term monitoring of wildlife and environmental health. The programs and services we provide benefit all age groups, individuals, and organizations, including private businesses, schools, libraries, parks and campgrounds. We are available every day of the year to assist wildlife in need, and provide critical support to municipal government agencies as the need arises. VOLUNTEERING We have many opportunities for you to share your time and talents with the Wildlife Center and our community! From working on-site with animal care and facility upkeep to helping at community events and education programs, there are lots of fulfilling ways to make a difference. We are open 7 days a week and have flexible shifts available to work within your schedule. VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS: • Animal Care + Support – Our #1 goal is to keep our patients healthy, cared for, and comfortable. You’ll help in their daily care, including cleaning enclosures, assisting with swim time, preparing diets, doing laundry, and more. • Facilities Assistance – assist with trimming the lawn, enclosure up-keep, and other hands-on projects related to keeping our patients safe and secure, and our center looking its best. • Education Programs – help us cultivate a wildlife-respecting, conser- vation-minded community through education! We deliver age-appropriate educational presentations to schools and a variety of community groups. • Community Outreach Team – are you passionate about wildlife, environ- mental issues, and advocacy? We’d love to have you with us at community events! Help inform others about wildlife in need, collect donations, memberships, and more – and have fun doing it! • Animal Transport Network – because of our extensive service area – from Newport, OR to Washington’s Long Beach Peninsula – we rely on a network of volunteers to help transport patients needing our help. DONATIONS + MEMBERSHIP We welcome all gifts – great and small, cash or in-kind donations of Wish List items. WCNC does not receive any government funding, and relies on the generosity of individuals, businesses, and other organizations to continue our work. Your donation helps to provide critical care, medical attention, and nutritious food to over 2,000 birds and other creatures needing our help every year, as well as a safe haven to heal, get back to health and released back into the wild where they belong. We have an awesome and ever-growing group of dedicated bird- and nature-lovers who’ve joined our Wild at Heart membership program.
