The fi eld day, held annu- ally for more than 50 years, included 11 educational sta- tions covering topics, such as the social, economic and envi- ronmental benefi ts of forests; how human activity affects them; water quality and water- sheds; wildlife; recreation; for- est fungi; fi res and the forestry industry. This year’s event, in the Bill Lecture Demonstration Forest for the fi rst time, was organized by Charley Moyer with the state Department of Forestry and Valerie Elder, a locally based Oregon State University Extension Service agent in forestry and natural resources. “Clatsop County is 94 per- cent forestland — it is valu- able for student to experience the place we live, the forest, and meet the people who call the woods their offi ce,” Elder said in a release.
