Ghadar Party sign is missing
The Daily Astorian
A historical marker
memorializing an early 20th
century Indian independence
group that met in Astoria is
missing.
The bronze metal sign
attached to a metal pole rec-
ognizes the Ghadar Party,
which met in May 1913 at
the former site of the Finn-
ish Socialist Hall. Driven
by Sikhs, Hindus and Mus-
lims along the west coast, the
anti-colonialist party worked
toward India’s independence
from Britain.
Police received a report
Friday morning that the
marker, located at Maritime
Memorial Park, was stolen.
It had not been returned as of
this morning.
Anyone with informa-
tion about where the sign is
or how it may have been sto-
len can contact Sgt. Andrew
Randall at arandall@astoria.
