The Oregonian reported offi cials issued the notice Thursday afternoon. Unin- corporated areas not already under evacuation notices are also included in the warning. Offi cials say the fi re started by lightning in the in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National For- est July 12 and is about 5 miles northeast of Brookings near the California border. The fi re has scorched over 156 square miles and is zero percent contained. The fi re was listed as the top fi refi ghting priority in the nation Tuesday. Gov. Kate Brown announced a mobilization of an additional 125 Oregon National Guard resources to start Thursday. Close to 30 other buildings have been damaged. Triple-digit temperatures and stubborn smoke from wildfi res raging in British Columbia and parts of Oregon, meanwhile, are joining forces to make Portland’s air quality among the worst in the coun- try this week, according to The Oregonian. Those levels exceeded air pollution in Beijing, according to a web- site that compiles air quality in dozens of countries. State health offi cials issued an advisory Wednesday urg- ing Oregonians throughout the Willamette Valley to take cau- tion before going outside. “People with chronic lung or heart conditions, the elderly, and children have higher risk of health problems from the fi ne particles in wildfi re smoke,” Dr. Richard Leman, a state public health physi- cian, said in a statement. “Peo- ple who suffer from asthma or other respiratory condi- tions should follow their dis- ease management plans, keep Adopt a Pet Pippa LOWER COLUMBIA BOWL Young Charcoal Grey American Shorthair UES G A E L L L A F ING M R O F W O N 503-325-3321 C OSMIC B OWL Friday & Saturdays 9pm to midnight Individuals & Teams Wanted Stop by or call today! 10 AM - 10:30 PM MON-TH 10 AM - 12:00 AM FRI - SAT 12 PM - 10:30 PM SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 2-4, 2017 | Labor Day Weekend Gates open at 9:00 a.m. | Battles 11 a.m. & 3 p.m. Sat & Sun. - Noon Monday | Living history al l day Admission: Adults $12 | Seniors and Active Military $8 | Children 6-12 $8 | Kids 5 & Und er Free medications on hand, and con- tact health care providers if necessary.” The poor air quality extends throughout much of the Willa- mette Valley and into South- west Washington.
