Stephan Kienberger is the new full-time pastor at First Lutheran Church, which is located at 725 33rd St. and is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. He grew up in the Pacific Northwest and graduated from Benson High School in Port- land. He holds a bach- elor’s degree in music Rev. Stephan from Pacific Lutheran Kienberger University in Tacoma, Washington, and a master’s degree in divinity from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berke- ley, California. Kienberger has served St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco, Fred- erick Lutheran Church in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and an American Lutheran congregation in Oslo, Norway. Currently he is serving the American Church in Ber- lin, Germany. His wife, Kristi, also holds a music degree, and is actively involved in the church. His two daughters are college stu- dents. The couple plan to move to Astoria in September. In the past, he has also served United Church of Christ and Episco- palian churches in var- ious capacities. Cas- well received a degree in psychology from Stanford University, where he also studied Dwight both Eastern and West- Caswell ern religions, and then earned a master’s degree in theology and a doctorate in ministry from the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. He is probably best known in the Lower Columbia region as a photogra- pher and writer. His photographs have been exhibited at two Astoria galleries, and he has written more than 300 arti- cles about the area and its people. The program includes dis- plays on Post 12, Cantigny, France, Post 12 charter mem- bers and others who served. Refreshments and a birthday cake will be served.
