Astoria High School CLASS OF 2017 Michelle Patterson Lucas Caruana Valedictorian Continuing Education: Western Oregon University Community/School Involvement: I participated in a lot of Honors classes, nearly all that were available. Astoria does a good job for those who desire challenge or accelerated learning. I ran for the high school's cross country and track programs. This last year I have worked with our leadership group to help out in some of the cool events that go on in and out of school. Outside of school I have worked in the community most of high school, attended church services at Coastline Christian Fellowship, and pursued my own hobbies and interests. Scholarships: Western Oregon Provost Scholarship Sports: Cross Country and Track and Field Raina Christian Olaf Englund Valedictorian Valedictorian Continuing Education: Lewis and Clark College Community/School Involvement: I am part of numerous clubs and classes at Astoria High School. I have been a part of Key Club since freshman year volunteering on various committees. This year, I am the vice president. I am also the president of Chinese Club, the service chair for National Honor Society, and public communications for our school's community art club. This year, I am the chief editor for our school newspaper. Scholarships: I have received the Trustee Endowed Scholarship from Lewis and Clark College. Sports: I have not participated in any athletics during my high school career. Kristen Travers Valedictorian Continuing Education: Oregon State University Community/School Involvement: I was an active member of many clubs at Astoria High School like Spanish Club, Key Club, and National Honor Society. In addition, I was also on the 2016 Regatta Court and volunteered at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Scholarships: Astoria Regatta Scholarship & OSU Academic Achievement Scholarship Sports: I was a member of the Astoria girls' varsity soccer and golf teams. Continuining Education: University of Oregon Community/School Involvement: I played football, basketball, and baseball for all four years of high school. I have been in Leadership for two and a half years, and am also a member of National Honors Society and Christian Athlete’s Club. Outside of school, I have volunteered at many youth sports camps and also with a lot of church activities. Scholarships: Jerry Westerholm Award, Summit Scholarship from the University of Oregon Sports: Football, basketball, and baseball Salutatorian Continuing Education: University of Oregon Community/School Involvement: I have done a lot of volunteering for the North Coast Land Conservancy and have spent a lot of time in the theater with the high school. Scholarships: The Summit Scholarship from U of O. Sports: I've always been more of a thespian than an athlete, but I admire the sports kids a great deal. Jasyn Gohl Valedictorian Shrida Sharma Valedictorian Jenna Rudolph Valedictorian Continuing Education: Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon Community/School Involvement: I have participated in an assortment of clubs at Astoria High School, including Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, National Honors Society, Spanish Club, Outdoor Club, and Art Club. In addition, I have been involved in my community through the Astoria Warming Center, Columbia Memorial Hospital, Lewis and Clark National Historical Park and Frite & Scoop. Scholarships: Summit Scholarship at University of Oregon, Presidential Scholarship at University of Oregon Sports: Varsity Girls Soccer, Varsity Swim Continuing Education: Oregon State University Community/School Involvement: I have been a part of the girls soccer team and track team for the entirety of my high school career. I worked my way to becoming captain of both teams by my senior year and was on the state championship team for track two years in a row. I am a part of many clubs such as Spanish Club, Key Club, National Honors Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. I held many leadership positions and worked my way to becoming president of both Spanish Club and Key Club. Through Key Club and other activities I have completed over 100 hours of community service, which was very rewarding. Scholarships: $6,000 Academic Achievement Award from Oregon State University Sports: I was a part of the AHS Girls Soccer team and Track and Field Team each year. Rachel Simmons Valedictorian Continuing Education: Brigham Young University Community/School Involvement: I have had the opportunity to serve along side others in various clubs, such as being the co- president of key club, the vice-president of Chinese Club, and a member of Art Club, National Honors Society, and Spanish Club. Within these clubs, I have been able to give back to the community through crafts with grade schoolers, raising money through pageants, and helping put on art shows and activities in Astoria. I have also been privileged to be a member of AHS's Astor Post and participate in activities involving the Hispanic community. Within my church organization, I have had the opportunity be involved with the Boy Scouts of America and have participated in various service projects. Scholarships: Roy & Frances M. Harker Schoalrship Sports: Girl's Soccer, Track and Field Meghan Welsh Valedictorian Continuing Education: Eastern Oregon University in the partnership program with OHSU Community/School Involvement: Over the last four years I have been involved in clubs such as Business Leaders of Tomorrow, French club, and Mu Alpha Theta. I was the secretary of Chinese Club for two years and a regular member for a third. I have volunteered at my church and at a preschool. Scholarships: I received a total of $4,000 from Eastern Oregon University and $3,000 from the Dobbin Nursing Scholarship. I am also waiting to hear from OSAC and Astoria Inc. Sports: I was involved with swim team my junior year. Continuing Education: I am attending the University of Oregon and plan on studying human physiology. Community/School Involvement: Throughout my high school career, I have participated various community service activities including Project Homeless Connect, Feeding Empty Bellies, Lower Columbia Hospice Race to the Bar, and multiple Astoria Youth Athletics instructional camps. Regarding school involvement, I am a member of clubs such as National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Key Club. Scholarships: Through the University of Oregon, I have received a $6,000 renewable scholarship for my academic achievement. Considering local scholarships, I am a finalist for the North Coast Scholarship Foundation and await their decision. In addition, I have applied to countless others and hope that I get some positive results in the near future.
