You can treat adult fl eas with topical or oral monthly adulticides and eggs and larvae with Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs) and Insect Development Inhibitors (IDIs). Your veterinarian may recommend a combined integrated control program. Both naturally-based pyrethrins and the synthetic pyrethroids are typically used in treatments. Keep in mind that while the synthetic is safe for dogs, it is very toxic for cats. Always check dosage requirements and watch for potential interactions with other medications your pet is taking.
