But Astoria couldn’t hold off Banks in the bottom of the fi fth, when the Lady Braves scored a run, then tacked on nine insurance runs in the sixth, on their way to a 13-3 win over the Fishermen. Banks and Scappoose are tied for fi rst in the Cowapa League standings at 7-1, while Astoria still has a solid lock on third place at 5-3. The Braves fi nished with 16 hits in Saturday’s game, while three of Astoria’s fi ve hits went for extra bases. Trailing 3-0 entering the top of the fi fth, a double by Hailey Ranta and a single by Brooklynn Hankwitz drove in runs and helped Astoria tie the game at 3-3. The Braves’ Katie Rags- dale dou- bled in the bot- tom of the fi fth to score Mary Schorn, then Ragsdale high- lighted the sixth with a two-run double, in the Braves’ nine-run inning. Emma McCourt followed with a two-run single. Banks had seven hits in the inning. Ragsdale fi nished with three doubles, while Rylee DeMander had a triple for the Lady Fishermen. Mooks, Astoria split TILLAMOOK — After a 13-2 Astoria win in Game 1, the Tillamook softball team stunned the Lady Fishermen with a 3-2 victory in Game 2, result- ing in a Cow- apa League doubleheader split Friday in Tillamook. The Lady Fish pounded out 15 hits (four for extra bases) in Fri- day’s fi rst game. Astoria scored three runs in the fi rst, and held a 10-1 lead after just three innings. Makinley Johnson added a triple for Tillamook, while pitcher Lili Vogel tossed a complete game, allowing 13 hits with no strikeouts and one walk. The Cheesemakers turned two double plays. Norris walked two with no strikeouts and eight hits allowed, but took the loss. Late rally lifts Banks past Astoria The Daily Astorian HILLSBORO — An inside-the-park home run by Jake Evans in the bottom of the sixth inning sparked a two- run rally for Banks, helping the Braves score a 3-2 win over the Fishermen Friday, in Cow- apa League baseball action at Hillsboro Hops Stadium. In the showdown between the two teams expected to bat- tle for the league title, both teams had six hits, but the Fish- ermen had two errors (both in the bottom of the sixth) and stranded seven base runners. Six different players had hits for Astoria, which included doubles for Olaf Englund and Kyle Strange. Jasyn Gohl was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fi rst inning to force in the fi rst run, and with two outs in the top of the fi fth, Fridt- jof Fremstad drew a four-pitch walk, and Kyle Strange fol- lowed with a double to left fi eld to score Fremstad. Astoria held the 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. Evans led off with a line drive to center, and circled the bases to score the tying run. One out later, Casey McGough followed with a bunt single, and took second on an error. With two outs, Dakota Bunn reached on an error, with McGough scoring the go-ahead run on the play. And Blake Goble — on in relief of starter Justin Bral — retired the Fishermen in order in the top of the seventh to pick up the win in relief. Bral and Goble combined for three strikeouts and two walks, while Astoria pitchers Jackson Arnsdorf and Fremstad struck out fi ve and walked one.
