Native beach plants are on Salty Talks agenda The Daily Astorian ILWACO, Wash. — Salty Talks presents an evening of conversation with Kathleen Sayce on the topic “Native Plants of the Beaches and Dunes” at 6:30 p.m. Wednes- day at Ilwaco’s Salt Pub & Hotel, 147 Howerton Ave., on the Ilwaco waterfront. The event is free and open to the public. Sayce grew up in Ocean Park, attended Ilwaco High School, graduated from Fair- haven College at Western Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in biol- ogy, and received a master’s degree in botany from Wash- ington State University. She has led field research on the ecological impacts of Spartina alterniflora in tide- lands of Willapa Bay for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Ser- vice, and mapped the pres- ence of Viola adunca for the Washington Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. She was also the science program director for the Willapa Alli- ance in the mid-1990s, and the science officer for Shore- Bank Pacific.
