Two Clatsop Community
College Talent Search stu-
dents, Knappa High School
seniors Devin Vandergriff
and Angeleen Somoza, have
won the Oregon state Hora-
tio Alger Scholarship. The
scholarship offers $10,000
over four years of college;
$2,000 each year for the
first three years, and $4,000
for the fourth year. Both
young women plan on enter-
ing college in the fall, but
are still waiting for financial
aid award letters to see how
much each college could cost
them.
“Without Talent Search,
I wouldn’t have been able to
get the same opportunities
— to check out different col-
leges and learn about schol-
arships,” Vandergriff said.
“Talent
Search
has
opened up many options for
my future, and I hope more
students can take advantage
of it, too,” Somoza said. Both
seniors have been very active
in Talent Search throughout
their time in high school.
Talent Search at CCC
serves over 650 students
from sixth through 12th
grade in cooperation with the
Astoria, Warrenton, Seaside
and Knappa school districts.
Their mission is to help stu-
dents succeed in school and
develop a clear vision of their
educational choices beyond
high school.

arship Association has
awarded more than $125
million in privately funded
need-based scholarships to
more than 22,000 young
people over the past 31 years
in all 50 states and Puerto
Rico.
