presents Grant McOmie, of the
TV show “Grant’s Getaways,”
at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the
museum, 1792 Marine Drive. The
show airs on KGW throughout the
Northwest Cable News station net-
work across Oregon and in Wash-
ington, Idaho, Alaska, Montana
and California.
A fifth-generation Oregon
native, McOmie is an Emmy
award winning journalist, author
and teacher who realized he hadn’t
seen enough of his native state, and
he has spent much of his 30-year

SEASIDE — Clatsop
Community College will host
a free course to help prepare
people for running an emer-
gency shelter after a disaster.
“Comprehensive
Shel-
ter Training,” a five-ses-
sion course taught by Red
Cross-certified instructors,
trains and certifies partici-
pants in basic food safety,
psychological first aid, serv-
ing people with functional and
access needs and reconnect-
ing people through the Red
Cross’ Safe & Well online
system. Allison Coffinberger
will share her experience run-
ning warming centers, and
will discuss the differences
between shelters and warm-
ing centers.
The core section, “Shel-
ter Fundamentals,” includes
procedures for setting up,
running and closing a shelter
during a disaster. A case study
and a final simulation com-
plete the course.
The entire course is free.
Classes meet at the college’s
South County Campus at
1455 N. Roosevelt Drive in
Seaside, adjacent to Diamond
Heating.
The first two classes will
be from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 27
and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 28.
The final three classes will be
held at the same times Feb. 3
and 4, with the final simula-
tion from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 5.

week class for Latino parents
with children of grade school
age and younger who want
to learn how to support and
advocate for their children in
their education is being held
in the Seaside Heights Ele-
mentary School library, 2000
Spruce Drive. Childcare and

The class starts Wednesday,
and continues each Wednes-
day through March 22, and is
sponsored by Northwest Par-

As part of the annual Columbia Bank “Warm Hearts” cam-
paign, which raised a total of $209,000, the Astoria branch
donated $1,596.66 in cash, as well as coats, gloves, hats,
neck warmers, socks and other warm clothing, to the

The 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass at St. Mary, Star of the Sea
Catholic Church, 1465 Grand Ave., is a Children’s Mass,
with readings, music, greeting and ushering provided by the
children. Parents are asked to send children at 10 a.m. to the
parish office to practice singing and for greeters to welcome
parishioners coming to Mass.
