Alcobendas is Student of the Month

WARRENTON — Ray-
mund Alcobendas, a Warren-
ton High School senior, has
been selected for the War-
renton Sunrise Rotary Club’s
October Student of the Month
award. He is recognized for
his sportsmanship in and out
of the classroom. After grad-
uation, he hopes to pursue a
degree in engineering.
“Ray is a student I wish
I could make copies of,”
Suzanne Marchello, one of his
teachers, said.
The Student of the Month
is chosen by the school admin-
istration for his/her accom-
plishments and for making
a difference in their school
and community. Each stu-
dent chosen receives a printed
award along with gift certif-
icates from area businesses,
including Warrenton Ful-

Youth (CADY) Mentoring Program

Clatsop Care Center — Volun-
teers needed daily for all three meals
to provide one-on-one assistance to
dining dependent residents. Volun-

Clatsop County Animal Shelter
— Animal care volunteers age 16 and
older needed for one three-hour shift

Clatsop Community Action
Regional Food Bank — Volunteers
needed to help hand out fruits and
vegetables at the weekly produce
pantries for two hours on Thursdays,
from April to October, in Seaside and
Warrenton. Warehouse attendants
are needed for food packing or pro-
cessing, picking orders for agencies,
light janitorial and housekeeping,
or lawn and grounds maintenance.
Three- to four-hour shifts are avail-
able Monday through Friday. To vol-

Outreach Literacy — Needs volun-
teer literacy tutors to work with adults,
native and non-native speakers.

Kris Saulsbury’s landscaping class at Tongue Point Job Corps Center went to Pioneer
Presbyterian Church on Clatsop Plains on a rainy Oct. 24 and spent at least seven
hours digging trenches and planting 1,600 daffodil bulbs. The flowers will be used in
April to construct the cross that is laid on the slope in front of the church during the
Easter season each spring. This tradition has been going on since about 1943, and at
times the cross has been at least 40 feet long and used 50,000 daffodils.
Interfaith Partnership
SEASIDE — The South County Interfaith
Partnership meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the
Pig ’N Pancake, 323 Broadway, to foster bet-
ter understanding among faith practitioners
and to nurture one another in spirit. All faiths

Calvary Episcopal
SEASIDE — Calvary Episcopal Church,
503 N. Holladay Drive, is holding its annual
Holiday Bazaar from 4 to 6 p.m. today, and
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Dessert and
beverages are available today. On Saturday,
lunch can be purchased from 11:30 a.m. to 2
p.m., including shrimp chowder, hearty soup
with bread, hot dogs and a variety of pies and
beverages.
Homemade candy, cookies, breads and
fudge, soup mixes, jam, and other gourmet
items are for sale. Other items include vintage
linens, unique kitchen items and collectibles.
There is also a “gently used” table.
Raffle tickets are available for a Christmas
wall hanging made by Judy Carder of Gear-
hart. Tickets cost $1 each or 6 for $5. The win-
ner need not be present to win.
Proceeds from the bazaar benefit local char-
ities and special church projects. For informa-

Grace Episcopal
The annual Grace Episcopal Church Holi-
day Sale is held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today
and Saturday at the church, 1545 Franklin
Ave. The event features original art by local
artists, as well as fabric and metal creations,
plants, baked goods, cookbooks, vintage trea-
sures and holiday gifts. A selection of soups
and baked goods are available for lunch.
Grace Church offers a Soup-Supper meal
at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Parish Hall, free of
charge. Those willing to help should come at 3
p.m. to set up or 5 p.m. to help clean up.

St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church

The Youth Group Christmas Poinsettia
