Marine Drive. No purchase is necessary. The Drive One 4 UR School program can help raise up to $6,000 for AHS to help sup- port athletics. United Way of Clatsop County off and running after Family Fun Night Exploring New Concepts of Retirement Education (ENCORE) is hosting a program, “Health Insurance Options for Seniors,” start- ing with an overview of Medicare from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The series, which is being held at the Astoria Senior Center, 1111 Exchange St., continues for the next three Wednesdays. At the Oct. 12 meeting, lu shots will be available. Representatives from several companies will present their programs, and answer ques- tions about their coverages and costs, to help seniors gain clarity on the challenging subject of securing affordable health care. Check out 1897 train progress at Sunday bbq The Astoria Railroad Preservation Asso- ciation is opening the doors of its mainte- nance shop and showing off progress on the Number 21 1897 Baldwin Mikado steam locomotive. In 1991, a group of preservationists bought Number 21 from a museum in Snoqualmie, Washington, and shipped 81 tons of disassem- bled parts to Astoria. Since then, the locomo- tive has been under construction in a Quonset hut a block from the Astoria Riverfront Trol- ley barn, with the ultimate goal of running tours between Astoria and Knappa. The barn, located at 446 W. Marine Drive, will open from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a free barbecue. The Daily Astorian Family Fun Night for the United Way of Clatsop County took over the Astoria Armory Wednesday night. The event featured a bounce house, games, hula hoops, jump rope, face painting, skating, a rafle and other activities. United Way raises funds to support 13 local agencies. All money raised in Clat- sop County stays in Clatsop County. Bereavement support group offered SEASIDE — Providence Seaside Hospital is offering a six-week bereavement support group, “Journey through Grief,” for family and friends of those who have had a loved one die during the past 12 months. The group holds its irst meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and meets every Encore hosts insurance options for seniors Tuesday through Nov. 1 at the hospital in Educa- tion Room B (lower level), 725 S. Clatsop Soil & Water Conservation District holds annual potluck The Clatsop Soil & Water Conservation District is holding its annual meeting and pot- luck at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fort Clatsop National Memorial Park, 92343 Fort Clatsop Road. The potluck starts at 2 p.m., followed by a presentation at 2:30 p.m. by a group from the Portland State University Center for Lakes and Reservoirs about a research project that started this summer on the Clatsop Plains lakes, including Sunset, Smith, Cullaby and Coffenbury. Donate a coat at Rogue Ales’ crawdad feed Rogue Ales Public House, 100 39th St., is hosting a Coat Drive & Crawdad Feed from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 30. Bring a new or gently used coat for a child or teenager and receive a plate for the crawdad feed. The coats will be donated to children in need who are in the Astoria School District. A portion of pro- ceeds from the evening will go to the Oregon School Employees Association, which pro- vides scholarships to children or relatives of OSEA members. This event is designed to recognize new- comers, and provide an opportunity to learn what Seaside AAUW is doing in the commu- nity, and what it can provide for its members. Visit Washington State Parks for free Saturday ILWACO, Wash. — The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is offer- ing a free day on Saturday, in recognition of National Public Lands Day. Day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks. Free days apply only to day-use access by vehicle, not overnight stays or rented facilities.
